- 5 Common Myths About Weight Management
The New Year is a time to reflect on the year gone by and make resolutions to create a better ‘You’. So, what’s that one resolution you have at the top of your list? It almost always begins with health. Doesn’t it? As we age and keep adding feathers to our caps, health often gets neglected. New Year's resolutions are a great way to start working on improving your health and well-being. Which of the resolutions mentioned below are a part of your list too? We bet it covers everything.
- I will hit the gym regularly
- I will lose weight
- I will eat a healthy and balanced diet
- I will quit smoking and alcohol consumption
- I will go for a jog every morning
The list goes on. However, what seems to ‘not-go-on’ for even a month is the resolution itself. It requires great resolve to ensure that you act with consistency on the resolution that you made for yourself. Here’s a list of 6 must-include habits you should consider in your New Year resolutions to begin 2023 on a healthy note.
1. Lose weight and keep it off
Very common, isn’t it? How about losing a pound per week till you reach the apt weight as per your Body Mass Index (BMI)? There are studies that have proven that losing one-tenth of your body weight can significantly reduce the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure affecting you. Also, setting a goal to lose a defined number of pounds per week can help you to create a smart diet and exercise schedule. Regular exercise and consumption of healthy foods consistently will help you to reduce weight effectively. Do not forget the importance of great sleep to supplement your weight-loss efforts. At YO1 Longevity Resorts, you can book an integrated weight management program. We offer deep tissue grapefruit oil massages with sauna, acupuncture, yoga, and related activities. The curated program also includes a mix of ancient ayurvedic treatments that detoxifies the body and helps you lose weight. Have you heard of Udhwarthanam and Bashpaswedana?
Udwarthanam is a deep-tissue Ayurvedic massage using herbal powders and medicated oils. The therapy involving upward massage strokes helps regulate blood circulation and enables complete detoxification of the body.
Bashpa Swedana is a special herbal steam bath. You are placed in a special wooden sauna chamber wherein only your head is exposed. The steam bath then channels the body’s toxins to a central location for expulsion.
The weight management program at YO1 helps to enhance perspiration in the body, augments skin glow and improves cellular activity. It stimulates fat metabolism and helps you to lose weight.

2. Eat a balanced diet, time it right
Eating a balanced diet is important. The food that you consume, the timing of its consumption, and the way you consume it – all these factors play a key role in helping you to become healthy. It is important to ensure that your diet comprises fruits and vegetables. They are low in calories and fat, but rich in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. They are a rich source of fiber too. While they help you to feel satiated, they do not lead to weight gain.
Eating right is as important as what you eat. Do you eat fast and end up overeating? You are not alone. Many people face this problem. To avoid this, you must eat slowly and chew your food carefully. In today’s fast-paced world, people conduct meetings, catch a Netflix episode, or make phone calls when they are eating. It is advisable to focus on eating alone rather than multi-task when you eat. You must relish the meal and stop eating when you are around 60% to 70% full. The brain takes around 20 minutes to indicate that the stomach is full so consciously stopping before you feel full is a smart way to avoid overeating and gaining weight.
Eating a balanced diet in the right way is the first step to great gut health. And ‘Gut’ is the second brain as they say. Maintaining a healthy gut can help you to prevent many diseases.
How should you start? How about a Digestive Health Management program at YO1? Educate yourself on the ill effects of consuming low-fiber, high-calorie processed foods, and their impact on your health and gut. Learn about probiotic digestive bacteria, detox your system, and clean your stomach and intestines.
3. Movement is medicine. Start right away!
Are you guilty of being indulgent and lazy lately? Is your new year resolution to get more active physically?
Great, we say. But start with small goals rather than hitting the gym with a vengeance in week 1 of 2023. You may want to start with walking a certain number of steps (say 5000 per week) and steadily increase it week-on-week. After about two months of walking, jogging, and running, you may eventually want to hit the gym when you are in better shape physically.
If time is a factor that hinders you from taking the above steps, try small methods. Heard of the 90:20 rule? It means that you focus on your work for 90 minutes and take a break for 20 minutes before you refocus. Use the 20-minute break to walk around your office or climb up some stairs. Even small activities like these can go a long way toward improving your health.
Also, while sitting during work, try to move your body, keep changing your position, and rotate your wrists and shoulders occasionally. Any small movement can add value in terms of enhancing your health and posture. How about a weekend getaway amidst the peace and tranquillity that nature provides? At YO1 you can engage in a variety of physical activities like hiking, cycling, swimming and much more, which is a great way to start your resolution on a healthy and rejuvenating note. So, when are you planning your visit next?
4. Understand the true nature of your body for preventive care
Prevention is better than cure. We all know that. Then, why not practice it? A full body check-up at least once a year is important for early diagnosis and treatment of health concerns that may go undetected otherwise. According to ancient ayurvedic wisdom, the five elements of nature namely, Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space are expressed as 3 Dosha or Energy types in the body – Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Each individual’s body constitution is made of a unique combination of Doshas. At YO1 we offer a curated package to discover your doshas, focus on the dominant one, and suggest personalised therapies and diets to maintain the right balance. This New Year, ensure that you understand the true nature of your body and take corrective measures for a healthy transformation.
5. Take a break to rejuvenate
What’s common between the best of professionals and the greatest of sportspersons? They all need a break from their routine. Timely breaks help them to rejuvenate and come back stronger. Such breaks are known to enhance the productivity and performance of such professionals.
You might want to plan a retreat for a few days away from a professional setting, and the hustle and bustle of the city. How about planning a retreat for you as well as your colleagues or your company in 2023?
It is proven that such breaks do a world of good to employees in terms of better coordination and teamwork and it directly enhances their productivity. Check out how a corporate retreat can be a great initiative for any company to take.
Whether you are an individual or a corporate, a retreat is a great way to recharge your batteries and renew your vigor and zeal – both professionally and personally. Check out our curated and customized packages at YO1 Longevity resorts, just for you.
6. Sleep is a panacea; improve its quality
Everyone yearns for quality sleep. It comes only when your mind, body, and soul are at ease. It means that you must establish a routine wherein you may want to completely cut off from digital devices at least 30 minutes before you hit the sack. Ensure that you have a comfortable bed, neat sheets, soothing music if you feel like, and dim or no lights. Ensure that the ambiance is set for a peaceful sleep.
This 2023, you must make great quality sleep as one of the health resolutions. It will automatically help to improve your overall health and create a fitter ‘You’.
A retreat wherein you leave your routine and worries behind and enjoy the comfort of nature could be a good way to get some sleep. Try our insomnia management program at YO1. It could be a great way to start the new year!
While resolutions are an effective way to restore good health, the key factor is consistency. Ensure that the resolution stays strong throughout the year irrespective of the other priorities that come along. Wish you a very happy and prosperous 2023!
